Tech Against Terrorism Expands its Terrorist Content Alerting System to 24/7 Emergency Response Team with Support from the Australian Government.

Tech Against Terrorism is expanding the hours of coverage of its existing 24/7 Emergency Response Team so that we can respond to terrorist attacks at all times of the day, with support from the Albanese Labor Government in Australia.

Key points:

  • 24/7 Emergency Incident Response Expansion: Tech Against Terrorism will expand its existing Emergency Response Team to cover the Australian time zones, enabling round-the-clock reactive assessment and referral of terrorist content online after terrorist attacks. This will ensure that content produced by terrorist actors is promptly addressed at any hour, effectively curbing its spread and mitigating its impact.
  • Responding to Terrorist Attacks: The initiative focuses on identifying and alerting tech platforms and relevant authorities to dangerous online content after or in support of terrorist attacks, ensuring rapid disruption to save lives.
  • Global and Regional Impact: With support from the Australian Department for Home Affairs, the expansion strengthens Tech Against Terrorism’s ability to combat terrorist exploitation of the internet across the Indo-Pacific region and Australia.
  • Life-Saving Global Collaboration: By removing terrorist content generated at the point of terrorist attacks we intend to "extinguish the oxygen of publicity" that designated terrorist organisations depend on to gain notoriety and radicalise followers in the immediate aftermath of terrorist attacks. Tech Against Terrorism’s work will ensure harmful content is swiftly addressed during and after attacks, supporting safer online environments and global counterterrorism efforts.

London, 18 November 2024 - Tech Against Terrorism is proud to announce the expansion of its Incident Response Process, powered by the Terrorist Content Analytics Platform (TCAP) Alerting System, to a 24/7 operational capacity. This vital expansion, supported by the Albanese Labor Government in Australia, marks a critical advancement in the fight against terrorist exploitation of the internet, with the ultimate goal of saving lives and preventing harm.

Responding to Terrorist Attacks to Save Lives

Tech Against Terrorism today announced that they will expand their operations to the Australian time zone with support from the Australian Department for Home Affairs in order to respond to terrorist attacks with a significant online component. With this expansion, Tech Against Terrorism will work around the clock by alerting the content to tech platforms and relevant authorities so that dangerous terrorist content can be disrupted before causing harm.

“Our work will focus on assessing and referring content during and after attacks” said Adam Hadley CBE, Founder and Executive Director of Tech Against Terrorism. “Expanding to a 24/7 crisis response capability reflects our commitment to ensuring harmful content is swiftly addressed and referred to the right platforms and authorities. This partnership with the Australian Government strengthens our ability to protect online spaces and support counterterrorism efforts across the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.”

Tech Against Terrorism will work with a team based in Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia to monitor, verify and alert terrorist content online based on its TCAP Alerting System and Inclusion Policies, as well as responding to terrorist crisis events in real time. Verified content will be alerted to tech platforms and relevant authorities for swift removal to stifle any potential viral dissemination. Tech Against Terrorism also collaborates with existing counter-terrorism initiatives, such as the Christchurch Call Foundation.
