What is it?

Altitude is an open-source tool, designed to help content moderators view, review and remove terrorist and violent extremist content from their platforms.

Altitude was developed by Google Jigsaw and Tech Against Terrorism.

Who is it for?

This tool is designed for small and medium-sized platforms to gain a competitive edge in the fight against online terrorism.

How does Altitude work?

1. Identification

Trusted sources identify and flag terrorist and violent extremist content (TVEC) using their own methods:

  • Terrorist Content Analytics Platform (TCAP) by Tech Against Terrorism
  • Hash-Sharing Database (HSDB) by GIFCT

2. Matching

Altitude integrates with each of the trusted sources and consolidates their TVEC signals into one view.

Platforms install Altitude, instead of checking each individual source separately.

Platforms use Altitude to check whether any content on their platform matches the flagged content that’s been consolidated into Altitude.

3. Review & Action

When there’s a match that needs review. Small platform moderators click for more detail, review and choose what action they want to take on the content.

How can you access it?

Altitude is free for platforms to use. It is offered as part of the Tech Against Terrorism’s Bronze tier partnership, giving tech platforms the resources and technology to start their journey in protecting their platforms against terrorist and violent exploitation.
