We wrap-up our webinar series this year by tracking the trends in the terrorist and violent extremist use of the internet and the counterterrorist response.

This webinar is organised in partnership with the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT).

  • Are you a tech professional interested in learning about best practice in developing countermeasures to the evolving terrorist and violent extremist threat online?
  • Are you a government or law enforcement official interested in learning about how the online terrorist and violent extremist threat landscape has evolved in 2022, and how this has influenced changes in tech sector responses and government regulation?
  • Are you an researcher or civil society representative and would like to learn more about how trends in terrorist and violent extremist use of the internet have evolved in 2022, what governments are proposing to tackle it, and what the potential digital rights implications might be?

For our final webinar of the 2022 Tech Against Terrorism & GIFCT e-learning series, we will look back at key events of the year – from the involvement of far-right violent extremists in the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the livestream of a violent extremist attack in Buffalo, New York – and reflect on how the terrorist and violent extremist online threat landscape has evolved alongside the offline environment.

We will discuss how the 2022 evolving threat landscape has led tech companies to adapt their counterterrorism policies and how they enforce Trust & Safety on their services. We will also reflect on the evolution of the global online regulatory landscape. Together with an expert panel, we will discuss the various challenges of responding to a fast and constantly evolving threat landscape, whilst ensuring that users’ fundamental rights online are not infringed.

As always, this webinar session will finish with a Q&A session that is open to all attendees.

More information about the speakers and the agenda will be shared soon.

If you would like to sign up to this free webinar, please register with your institutionally affiliated email address – note that registration does not guarantee participation, and access to this webinar will be limited. This webinar will be held under Chatham house rules.
