Misogynist and Male Supremacist Violent Extremism: Evolving National Security Threats
18 August 2022 5pm BST, 12pm EDT, 9am PDT
This webinar is organised in partnership with the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT).
- Are you a tech professional interested in learning more about the online nature of misogynist and male supremacist violent extremist networks and actors to inform identifying and moderating such behaviour
- Are you a government or law enforcement official interested in learning more about the unique national security threat presented by misogynist and male supremacist violent extremist actors, and how this takes shape online?
- Are you an academic or researcher interested in understanding more about how misogynist and male supremacist violent extremist networks operate online and challenges faced in effectively countering misogynist and male supremacist violent extremism?
For our August webinar of the 2022 Tech Against Terrorism & GIFCT e-learning series, we take an in-depth look into how misogynist and male supremacist violent extremist actors use the internet to spread their ideologies online, as well as the challenges in effectively identifying and moderating such behaviour. The threat of gender-based violent extremism has grown significantly over the past decade, alongside the multitude of online spaces dedicated to spreading misogynist and male supremacist violent extremist ideologies. These spaces present a unique threat of networked actors, seeking to spread violent extremist narratives in clandestine spaces. In this webinar, we will discuss the current threat landscape of misogynist and male supremacist violent extremism, with a focus on how offline violence relates to the online world. We will also discuss current responses to the misogynist and male supremacist violent extremist threat, and why misogynist and male supremacist online content presents a unique content moderation challenge for tech platforms.
As always, this webinar session will finish with a Q&A session that is open to all attendees.
More information about the speakers and the agenda will be shared soon.
