Proscription of Hizb-ut Tahrir: Implications for Tech Platforms

Written by Tech Against Terrorism | Jan 15, 2024 6:12:17 PM

Following the UK government’s announcement that it intends to ban the political group Hizb ut-Tahrir, Tech Against Terrorism outlines the implications the decision will have for tech platforms.

Adam Hadley, founder and Executive Director of Tech Against Terrorism said:

“Having operated openly and freely in the UK and elsewhere for many decades, Hizb ut-Tahrir is likely to have a large online footprint spanning multiple platforms. If the decision to proscribe is confirmed, tech platforms will be expected to uphold the Online Safety Act in removing content that has proliferated online. The UK government’s consequential decision may lead to similar action by other countries or international organisations.”

“Tech Against Terrorism will monitor the situation and review the implications for the Terrorist Content Analytics Platform and our reporting of terrorist content online.”
