Wednesday 8 April 5pm - 6pm BST: Transparency reporting

Are you a tech company interested in learning more about producing your first transparency report? Do you want to learn how to improve upon your transparency reporting processes?

Are you a counterterrorism professional interested in hearing about how platforms can report on terrorist takedown activity?

Are you a researcher, government official, or advocate who is invested in ensuring greater transparency across the tech industry – and beyond?

Transparency is an increasingly prevalent and important topic within the tech industry – but also is becoming ever more so outside it. For our new 2020 Tech Against Terrorism & Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) e-learning series, this session will look at current transparency reporting practices within the tech sector, how they have evolved, and where they will go next. This webinar is targeted at sharing best practice with smaller tech companies who want to publish transparency reports that reflect a respect for users’ rights in a manner that is not overly burdensome. This session will also be insightful for professionals across the tech policy and counterterrorism sphere. Leading experts from the GIFCT, tech platforms, and civil society will share their insights on some of the benefits and challenges involved in reporting, as well as offer ideas on best practices that could support tech platforms to reach a higher industry standard. This webinar will finish with a Q&A session that is open to all attendees.

Wednesday 6 May 5pm - 6pm BST: Tech sector & law enforcement engagement in countering terrorist use of the internet

Are you a tech company representative who is interested in learning more about how your platform can work more effectively with law enforcement to counter terrorist use of your platform?

Would you like to know more about existing processes around removal requests, electronic evidence preservation and information requests – and what rights and obligations your company has in relation to law enforcement?

Reciprocally, are you a law enforcement official who would like to learn more about tech sector practices around law enforcement engagement?

In this joint Tech Against Terrorism and Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) webinar, we aim to help facilitate constructive working relationships between tech companies and law enforcement agencies in line with international human rights obligations. As a participant, you will hear from tech companies and law enforcement representatives about existing practices and legal channels around content removal, information sharing and electronic evidence, such as mutual legal assistance treaties (MLAT). As always, this session will finish with a Q&A session that will be open to all attendees.

About the organisers:

Tech Against Terrorism is an initiative supported by UN CTED and implemented by QuantSpark Foundation. We support the tech industry in tackling terrorist use of the internet whilst respecting human rights. As a public-private partnership, we work with tech companies, civil society, and governments across the world to develop practical resources and policy advice for tech companies to help them fight terrorism on their platforms. We work with companies across all technologies, including social media, file-sharing, fintech, cryptocurrency, e-commerce, and messaging platforms.

The Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) was founded by Facebook, Google, Twitter and Microsoft in 2017 as an industry-led initiative. The objective of the GIFCT is to substantially disrupt terrorists' ability to promote terrorism, disseminate violent extremist propaganda, and exploit or glorify real-world acts of violence using our platforms. The GIFCT works to employ and leverage technology, sharing knowledge, information and best practices, and conduct research with global experts.
