This webinar is organised in partnership with the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT).

  • Are you interested in learning about how the online terrorist and violent extremist online threat landscape has evolved in 2021, and how this has influenced changes in tech sector responses and government regulation?
  • Are you a tech professional interested in learning about best practice in developing countermeasures to the evolving terrorist and violent extremist threat online?
  • Are you a researcher, government official, or civil society representative and would like to learn more about how trends in terrorist use of the internet have evolved in 2021, what governments are proposing to tackle it, and what the potential digital rights implications might be?

For the last Tech Against Terrorism and GIFCT webinar of 2021, we will look back at key events of the year – from the January 6 US Capitol storming to the Taliban gaining control of Afghanistan – and reflect on how the terrorist and violent extremist online threat landscape has evolved alongside the offline environment. We will discuss how the 2021 evolving threat landscape has led tech companies to adapt their counterterrorism policies and how they enforce Trust & Safety on their services. We will also reflect on the evolution of the global online regulatory landscape and how recent regulations proposals on illegal and harmful content online were influenced by major events of 2021. Together with an expert panel, we will discuss the various challenges of responding to a fast and constantly evolving threat landscape, whilst ensuring that users’ fundamental rights online are not infringed. In particular, we will focus on how smaller and newer tech platforms can swiftly adapt to the evolution of the threat and regulatory landscapes.

As always, this webinar session will finish with a Q&A session that is open to all attendees.

More information about the speakers and the agenda will be shared soon.
